Welcome Home Izzy Anderson

It's official. Matt and I are parents! She is a little hairier than your average baby but we couldn't be prouder.

Name: Izzy (short for Isabella Von Dutches)
Weight: 9 pounds 4 oz.
Breed: Standard Poodle
Color: Parti; Cream and Apricot
Age: 8 weeks
Likes: Chewing on Mommy's rugs and furniture, romping around outside, playing in my water bowl, pooping & peeing
Dislikes: My crate, being alone, stairs of any kind, my leash, my stupid haircut

So now the potty-training begins. So far she is doing pretty well but I guess some accidents are inevitable. If any one has any helpful hints I would LOVE some advice.

Shannon! She is really cute...but somehow her hair reminds me of an eighties perm....

Good luck with the potty training! I wish I had some words of advice to offer...

When we got Hogan, I read every puppy-training book I could find. I'd recommend "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by the Monks of New Skete. (Yes, they're actual monks...they breed and train German Shepherds. As trainers, they're wise and compassionate and totally down to earth)
The main things we learned about potty-training were:
1) Constant vigilance!
2) Bigtime praise for a successful outdoor poopage or peeage.
3) Get into a settled routine as soon as possible.
4) No scolding for accidents found in the house long after the deed is done. Dogs are like kids...sometimes ANY attention is good, whether it's positive or negative. Just clean up the mess without comment to the dog, and try again next time.
5)Use Nature's Miracle spray to remove the odor from accident spots...that'll discourage her from messing there again.
6) Patience and love, patience and love...

Congrats on parenthood! She's a doll-baby...I'm so happy for you!

The doggy doorbell worked GREAT for my dog Riley. In fact, I just blogged about it after starting this comment. I also posted a video of Riley pushing his doorbell.

You probably already know this, but make up some little treats that Izzy REALLY LIKES (grilled chicken maybe?) and only use them for training purposes.

Riley also benefited from dog training, which I took him to for an hour on an evening once a week for a month or so. It was only about $50 or less and produced amazing results!

Poodles are SO smart, especially standards. I have always thought they were much smarter than the miniatures.

Have you ever watched the show "Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan? It's AWESOME!

Love ya!
